What is FTC?
FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) isn't just about building robots! It's about so much more, through the process of learning. FTC allows you to learn a wide variety of different skills. These skills include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills, team building/social skills, leadership skills, organizational skills, and so many more. Along with skills gained in FTC, you also become knowledgeable in certain fields dealing with economics, business, design, engineering, etc. FTC is all about empowering students to design, build, program, and operate a robot to achieve a common goal while working together, having fun, problem solving, and learning skills/knowledge in certain aspects, FTC strives to help build each student up in more ways than one. Students learn and use social, business and STEM skills throughout the season to achieve this goal. Though some people feel that there isn't a place for them in FTC, we all feel that it's an organization for anyone! Be sure to check out our role page for some ideas on what you can offer to the fantastic FTC!

"It’s way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!”
Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages, including Java. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting FIRST Championship."
But most importantly, it's about learning and having fun! Gracious Professionalism is an important element of FIRST Tech Challenge.

What is Gracious Professionalism?
Though people often wonder what FTC is about ( as we answered above), there are two words our team always adheres to, and those two words are Gracious Professionalism. Just gearing those words, you can probably guess the meaning of that phrase. If not, then we will happily explain to you what Gracious Professionalism means to our team, and how it pertains to FTC. Gracious Professionalism, is a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals as well as the community. This above all else is extremely important to our team. The idea of being there of your "enemy" and helping them in the long run to become the best that they can be! Helping each other out, volunteering, and simply being a friend to anyone in need truly allows you to be a great team. Always remember Gracious Professionalism, and core values, for these things truly define the F.I.R.S.T community.
